# OutOfBounds (/docs/errors/chain/OutOfBounds)

A pointer and length pair passed to a contract API host function references memory outside the contract's sandbox. Check the buffer pointers and lengths the contract passes to seal functions; this usually indicates a low-level contract bug.

Declared by the `Contracts` pallet; it classifies to the semantic code [`invalid_argument`](/docs/errors/invalid-argument).

## Remediation [#remediation]

Check the argument values against the operation schema

The same explanation is available in the terminal: `btcli explain OutOfBounds`.
